33BL and 42RBL Brushless Motors

33BL and 42RBL
Miniature motor expert Trident Engineering announces the arrival of two new additions to complement their range of competitively priced long life Brushless motors. The 33BL motor available in 2 lengths (38 and 80mm) and with a peak torque of around 0.3 Nm and speeds up to 12,000 rpm and the 42RBL a round bodied motor with 2 lengths (60 and 85mm) available and torques up to 0.45 Nm. Both are ideal for use in hand tools, industrial applications, textile machines, medical equipment, printing and labelling machines as well as the factory automation market segment. The 42RBL round body makes an aesthetical solution when added to similar sized planetary gearboxes also provided by Trident. The motors all have high flux density magnets as well as integrated hall sensors which allow for very high efficiencies to be achieved and provide very good performances with respect to the power to size to weight ratio.

To complement its new additions, Trident supplies a comprehensive range of standard and customised gearboxes, encoders, brakes and clutches as well as integrated drivers. The complimentary gearboxes are available in economical spur and compact planetary versions, with standard ratios from 3.2:1 up to 2135.9:1 or a ratio to be determined for the custom solutions.
An advantage of using these products is that minor customisation, such shaft adaptation, addition of pulleys, cable forms etc. can be undertaken with no minimum volume.

Portescap nuvoDisc

Portescap nuvoDisc, flat Brushless DC Motors Maximize Speed while Minimizing Size and Vibration in Rigorous Medical and Automation Applications.

Ultra-compact package provides more robust performance than conventional flat motors. An incomparably small footprint (32mm diameter and 11.7mm length), the Portescap nuvoDisc is packed with standard features that offer unique performance and quality-of-use benefits to device manufacturers and end-users, including superior continuous speed, quick design integration and mechanical installation, and high reliability due to no mechanical wear because it's a brushless motor and the ball bearings provide excellent life. And as a result of the slotless no cogging design, the nuvoDisc benefits from minimal vibration.
Engineered specifically for markets where miniaturization is key, nuvoDisc is ideally suited for space-constrained applications such as portable respirators and barcode scanners. A high-speed slotless design eliminates cogging to provide smoother operation and better accuracy for maintaining a stable speed compared with conventional miniature flat motors. NuvoDisc also eliminates the bulk and limited portability inherent in other types of DC motors. A slotted design is available for applications that require detent torque, such as Damper Control in the HVAC industry.

Over 75% shorter and 90% lighter than conventional flat motors, Portesca's nuvoDisc technology allows engineers even greater ability to miniaturize their applications without compromising performance. Offering speeds of up to 50,000 rpm and mechanical power output of up to 30 watts (10mNm of maximum continuous output torque), nuvoDisc delivers the highest efficiency among all miniature DC motors. Moreover, nuvoDisc reduces power supply requirements by drawing less current, which minimizes generated heat.

This product is the result of years of experience in the respirator and barcode reader industries, and is engineered to bring benefits to OEMs and end-users alike. Hand held devices will benefit from a smaller, lighter, and high-efficiency solution resulting in a significant competitive advantage over conventional flat motor technologies. Similarly, end-users will benefit from superior comfort and improved portability, while having greater peace of mind resulting from increased efficiency and smoother operation.

The nuvoDisc complements Portescap's brushless DC motor family that encompasses the 16mm BH, 22mm BH, and the 30mm BH brushless DC motors in various stack lengths.

The future of DC motors

As motor control grows to fulfil new and ever expanding roles in applications, the criteria for motor selection will become more demanding, while the selection process itself will become less burdensome. Improved motor types, created by material technologies and construction methods yet to be employed, will allow more standardisation and offer distinct advantages in cost and performance. This will permit new technologies to be adopted by an increasing number of applications that today require a broader selection of different motor types. Coupled with embedded electronic controller hardware, the designer will be able to use software to tailor applications more fully to meet system requirements.
